The LMU Latin America Network warmly congratulates Prof. Dr. Benjamin Loy, a member of the Network’s Steering Committee, on receiving the 2026 Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize. Awarded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the prize is one of Germany’s most prestigious awards for researchers at an early stage of their academic careers and recognizes outstanding achievements in research.
Benjamin Loy has been teaching and conducting research at LMU since the summer semester of 2024 in the field of Hispanic, Francophone, and Lusophone literatures and cultures, with a focus on modern and contemporary literature. His research interests include aesthetic imaginaries of society, conservative and reactionary currents in the literature and intellectual history of the Romance-speaking world, as well as aesthetic and political conceptions of time in the literatures of the Global South. His work also explores literary translation, the global book market, and the international circulation of literature.
In addition to serving on the Steering Committee of the LMU Latin America Network, Benjamin Loy is Deputy Spokesperson of the Munich Center for Contemporary Literature, a member of the Faculty Council of LMU’s Faculty of Languages and Literatures and of the Class of Literature at the Graduate School for Language and Literature, as well as a Key Researcher in the Cluster of Excellence “Cross-Cultural Philology: New Perspectives on Language and Culture.”
